I found this statistic kind of surprising, but according to statistica website, Colo. only produces a tiny fraction of CA's production (13K tons vs. 620K tons for CA.) I was surprised the south doesn't produce more than it does, too.

My dear late Aunt used to brag about their western slope peaches.

Golden orbs of liquid sun, tree-ripened freestone peaches are a truly sublime eating experience. Since I no longer have a tree in my backyard, something I miss from my former house on the east coast, I'll settle for a case or two of the delicious Western Slope peaches my neighborhood Boy Scout troop sells as a fund-raiser each August. Then I'll sit out on my porch, enjoying the late summer heat and inhaling the juicy sweetness for as long a possible before retiring to the kitchen to preserve them for the coming winter. What a treat!

One of my favorite snacks is sliced peaches over Greek yogurt, with a sprinkle of walnuts and mini chocolate chips. Maybe add some vanilla paste and/or honey to make it more "dessert."
