hey guys was wondering if this is a trail system that you can hike to the lake, or more of a cross country walk through everything to get there type of hike?

It's been awhile since I was there. Summer '99 I think. We spent 4 nights at the upper end of Lake Constantine in a beautiful camp spot just below a series of falls. Definitely a memorable spot.

There's a trail to the upper lakes...but you are getting up close to timberline so it's not well defined in some spots. However, since you are ascending into a circue/well defined bowl with ridges/peaks all around...you won't miss it. We hiked up and over into the valley to the West as well where there's a series of lakes descending into the valley. (blanking on the name)

With the snowfall this season expect the lake to still have ice on it well into summer. We were there in August and there was still ice on part of the lake that year. We also got hit by a major hail/rainstorm while at the lakes. We had to take cover under a rock ledge for a good 1/2 hour while hail and lightning reigned down all around us. By the time it was over the ground was white...covered in 3" of hail. The hike down the trail back to camp was like walking in a small river (of hail). I'll never forget trucking back to camp...basically beating the majority of the water flow that had fallen down the hill...and sitting there while we watched the creek rise a good foot in about 5 minutes as the water cascaded down the mountain.

Next to the Missouri Lakes/Pass/Cross Creek drainage hike we've done 2 times...(22 miles...much of it descending...takes 2 cars)...this was one of my favorite trips. We didn't see a soul for the entire time other than a guy who hike to Lake C for a day of fishing.

Thanks for jarring the memory loose. Hope you make it up there....it's a beautiful place. (like much of CO)
