Hi guys - I was wondering (hoping someone who has done it already) a trailer from harbor freight, do I have to go down to the DMV, then police station, then DMV again? I am trying to avoid that mess since I already bought a trailer from craigslist and found out I do not have a title for it so I can not renew it. i guess I got desperate and bought a trailer without even thinking of the title

anyhow, the harborfrieght trailer already comes with a title....but not sure about vin and stuff. And since it is a store bought trailer....id figure I can just go to the dmv with the title and plate it without the hassle of doing all those extra steps

when you take delivery of the trailer from Harbor Freight, you'll find that they've opened up the document package with it and have filled out the title paperwork from the MSO documentation. The HF trailer has a VIN plate on it from the manufacturer.

You may still need to get a "physical inspection" of the VIN data plate on the HF trailer, but it's a straightforward thing to do as part of the title/registration.

As far as the trailer that you've already bought, if it doesn't have a VIN data plate or numbers stamped into it now ... perhaps a homebuilt ... you should be able to get a homebuilt VIN assigned to it, stamp or data plate it, have it inspected, then head to the county offices for title/registration. Should be less expensive than buying another trailer from HF; even their cheapest with a 20% discount coupon is still a couple hundred bucks.
