I tried to cover much of it in the title, lol.

We currently live in a small town in TN. I love the small town feel but the area is very conservative and with our daughter starting school in August how she will be accepted concerns us. My wife has the opportunity to transfer to Pueblo and we think this might be a good idea. I likely will transfer to Pueblo with my job also, or not work, so jobs are not what concern us.

We want to buy property and build a home, and there are many cheap properties, my question is why so cheap? I realize water, travel time, and ruralness can be an issue, but is that the only reasons? I was looking south of Pueblo.

Overall are people pretty live and let live as I have read? Would we have any issues on any of the factors I listed about us? Schools are also a concern. CO schools rate better than TN, so that is good, but obviously not all are equal. Here it can be difficult to get a child into a school you aren't zoned for, it seems easier in CO, but perhaps I am not understanding that correctly.

From what I know, the Gay and Lesbian Community is much more in Denver than anywhere else on the Front Range. Actually, I don't know how the word "acceptance" is taken in Pueblo. There again, I think that word is taken much better in Denver than any other city/town in Colorado.

I may be wrong, but......

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Joessepie is going to disagree with you about that.

Pueblo is very gay friendly but since the city is smaller there is a smaller gay community. I don't have kids so won't comment on the schools but would avoid the lower east side and a area called bessesmer.

The Denver metro has over 3 million people of course the gay scene is bigger. However Pueblo is just as accepting of gay people as Denver is.

What is your basis for that claim?

I'm not as concerned with the gay scene, bars and such, my wife likes to play pool but I prefer to stay home. We go to a LGBT bar occasionally but if not available it's not a huge issue.
Does anyone know why the properties south of Pueblo (Colorado City, Walsenburg) are so cheap. I know Walsenburg is not economically big but are there other reasons?
