Bought a used motorcycle, need to go to the dmv to do registration and get the title in my name. How long does it take to get that title in the mail usually?

Thanks in advance!

This from CO DMV at https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/dmv/titling-vehicle#

"Your Colorado title will be mailed to you when there are no liens filed against your vehicle. If there is a lien, the title will be mailed to the lienholder. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery."

I think it depends on whether or not you financed your purchase. When I bought my popup camper, I paid cash and went to the DMV with the bill of sale and title in the former owners name in hand, but signed over to me. The DMV issued a new title on the spot along with a license plate.

much depends upon the title trail paperwork conveying ownership to you.

if the seller has a clear Colorado Title (no liens) and the Bill of Sale is clean (no liens/lenders) to you, the title paperwork is almost instantly completed. DMV can send you a title within days. I've even had them issue me a title on the spot.

IF, OTOH, the title trail involves release of liens from lenders, new lender filings, or has out-of-state or multiple title transfers involved that need to be verified, it can take a lot longer. The DMV is dependent upon timely responses from others to complete the title trail to you.

It also depends on how much the people at the dealership have their act together. The system in Colorado is really quite archaic in this regard. In every other state, I've lived in, one can go to the DMV the day of purchase and get plates and tags - not have to wait days or weeks for the seller to submit the paperwork.

I paid cash for my 2010 Ram 1500 at a large dealership. It has now been 86 days and not title or registration! The dealer kept giving me the run around and they finally told me the other day that the guy that traded the truck in never brought the title with him and they sold it to me knowing they didn’t have a title for it! The previous owner won’t answer his phone and I don’t know what is going to come of this. I have already put over $2k in upgrades and tires on the truck and this is rly stressing me out. I’m thinking of getting a lawyer as I know it’s illegal in Kentucky for a dealer to sell a vehicle they don’t have a title for.
