We're looking into moving to Pueblo, so I called some real estate agents. I really only had one question: What communities nearby have the best schools?

And I was told they can't really talk about it. :|

I tried doing some research on my own, but it doesn't make any sense to me. Most every school is extremely poorly rated, generally around a 3. The few that are 7+ are spread out over the entire county. There doesn't seem to be any where the elementary, middle, and high school are all rated decently. And I don't even know how seriously to take these ratings.

What am I not getting? Is Pueblo a bad town? And if so, any suggestions on how to get to the bottom of which school district is best? We would be willing to live 20-25 minutes out of town if that will put us in a better district.

As a reference, we will be coming from an ISD where all the schools are rated 9.

Thanks!

I live in Pueblo and absolutely love it. On the schools I went to both district 70 and 60 and had no problems then went on to get a MBA from a top university in the nation. I think the most important part is what you put into your kids schooling. I would avoid the lower east side and a area called Bessemer.

Thank you!

We are mainly concerned about bullying. My son has Treacher Collins Syndrome which affects his appearance somewhat drastically.

We are coming from a 2a school where K-12 is on the same campus, eats in the same cafeteria, and everybody knows everybody. They are all, students and teachers, very protective of my son and it is a very zero tolerance for bullying school. It's going to be a very hard move.

Best schools academically on paper would probably be Rye High School and Rye elementary and that would include Craver Middle School of Colorado City just down the road from Rye.

Colorado City and Rye is about 30 minutes or so from Pueblo.

Rye HS is a 2a school of about 270 people. There is probably some bullying in this small town of about 5k.

Pueblo West is your next best areas for school, with Pueblo County area of the Mesa next.

All three of those areas are in District 70.

All of your Pueblo City schools are in District 60 and are statistically awful, good luck there, hope this info helps you.

If your looking for a K-12 single campus you might consider Chavez Huerta K-12 Preparatory Academy (charter school), it's made up of Cesar Chavez Academy & Dolores Huerta Preparatory High School. Chavez Huerta: Home

Yeah, that Chavez Huerta has some history fo sho...

After 10 years of what Lawrence Hernandez and his wife Annette describe as "the most inspirational period in our lives", they were fired by the CCSN School Board from their positions as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operations Officer in 2010 amid allegations that the Hernandez family, along with other administrators, were "squandering taxpayer money".[3]

I'm seeing some good stuff about Risley, a neighborhood school.

History aside, I know people who drive there kids from the other side of the city to attend Chavez Huerta, I doubt the same is true of Risley which I attended many years ago. Perhaps they have got there act together... I read the story on its attempts to improve but it wouldn't be my 1st choice for a middle school.
