At the Nederland Town Hall meeting the other night the Fire Chief said they've been getting 2-3 illegal campfire calls every day. (I learned a lot more about the some of the allegedly "homeless" young people up here. (A topic for another thread.) The day after the Cold Springs fire started someone called to say they were upset that they couldn't fire up their wood-fired hot tub and that was ruining their vacation. Wow and WTF?

I spent a couple days on the Front Range over the weekend. Coming back through highway 50, I noticed the fire near Beulah has gotten worse. Local news states it has burned over 5000 acres and mandatory evacuations are underway. Seven structures lost so far. Beulah schools as of yesterday are still closed.

Jossepie, McGowdog!! Whatcha got on this?

As of today the fire is 75% contained.

This is from the Pueblo county web page on Facebook

Good news again tonight from Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team Black- No increase in acreage (5232), no additional structures lost and now containment is at 75%. Also, Phase 3 re-entry is underway.

The fire was started by CDOT as a earth mover causes a spark that started it. During the fire the events center at the fair was and is the evacuation shelter.

I've got a couple of friends from the area posting on Facebook and some have been lucky and some not so much.

Here's a recent clip that will hopefully give us an idea...

One thing for sure, the firefighters in the area knew this incident was just a matter of time due to limited resources of fire mitigation, etc.

In fact, it was a flood mitigation project that may have started this one, but an unfortunate accident nonetheless.
