Info on Victor
Hello.
Has anyone here ever lived in Victor, Co.? I'm curious about the local "vibe" to use that hackneyed phrase. Are most residents working in Cripple Creek or other places in the area? Are there any medical facilities within an hour's drive? The photos I've seen on the Net show alot of boarded-up windows and weeds. Is there an active community effort to improve the town (and I DON'T mean putting in a Wal-Mart or anything like that) or is it basically a semi-ghost town?
Thanks for any input!

I have'nt lived in Victor but, have been there. Went to a bar there called Zeke's. It is one of the oldest working bars, built in 1893.
Anyway, bunches of locals showed up at 9:45 to sing karaoke and, dang, they were good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was amazed and I swear, everybody that lived there showed up. That is all I know about the place....good chile too!!
I have never been back, nor will I ever go again. JFYI.

Thanks for the feedback Sheridan, but I gotta ask why you'd "never go back". Was it the town, the people....or???

We've never lived in Victor, either, but we visited last summer. Our cousin owns a bed and breakfast in Cripple Creek and we spent the weekend there exploring the area. Victor is definitely depressed. Main street has old buildings left over from the mining boom times, but most are empty. The action, such as it is, is in Cripple Creek with the gambling, and there are mine tours in the whole Cripple Creek/Victor general area. We went into a nice museum in Victor and a fun general store, but beyond that there's not much there.

The town, the roads. It is pretty much a "dead end" to me.
The folks were okay whilst singing. Different, definitely different. Not mean or nice, just a variety of different. I am sure that makes no sense but, if you went there I think you'd get it.
It is hard to navigate,,,the roads are awful!! Steep, muddy, holes everywhere.
They are very non-judgemental people...with not a whole lot to do.
I think I would just call it "Dreary". Yep, that's it!

Victor info
Hey, thanks for the replies Sheridan and Hawaii !
Your descriptions are kinda what I expected from seeing the photos, etc. I was a ski bum in Winter Park (way) back in 1980-81 when it was still a small town and not "Aspen lite" and I have a pretty good feel for the backroad towns of the state. Victor caught my attention due to a listing for some very cool looking 'condos' that were recaptured from an old power station by a local (?) architect/builder/cool dude. Always loved Colorado and may get back there some day, so your help is appreciated.
Matt

I've been in Victor many times. We run the hill climb there- race cars. The town is very "quaint" in that it's really a throw back in time. Little or no cell service, one paved road in and out, a lot of low income housing, interesting homes and buildings, very nice people (with little to do) and a lot of history.
As for living there...umm, no. Only the hard core miners are living there. And probably the only thing (still) keeping the town alive.

Honestly, being from C Springs, Victor has nothing. It's just a ghost town and heck, in my 40 years of life, I have driven through but not been there for any length of time. Cripple Creek is the "area" to be if you want to be in a small town. You want a small town to live in check out Guffey.

Don't do it!!
You WILL be traveling a LOT to be somewhere. It IS in the middle of nowhere! BORING and DESOLATE!!
Please do not think I am not fond of a "small " mountain town...I AM!!
But it is a WHOLE BIG BUNCH OF DIFFERENT!!!! NOT COZY....weird!!!
I'm sorry, I shouldn't be so opinionated/sp?. You and only YOU know where you need to be.
