I am considering working in Denver and living in Colorado Springs. Does anyone have experience doing this? I would be doing this five days a week. Any advice would be great!

Miserable in the summer and downright nauseating in the winter.

I guess the question is: Why?

That commute is really not practical long-term. I-25 is narrow and two lanes in each direction from the top of Monument Hill to just outside Castle Rock. Accidents in that section of roadway can double or even triple your commute time.

In winter it can take hours to get between Denver and the Springs during a snowstorm and there will be times when enough snow falls to close the freeway at Monument Hill.

Under the absolute best circumstances you'll be spending 10-12 hours per week in your car. I like driving, but that commute would drive me to drink - heavily.

You should really pick one or the other. This is almost akin to saying I have a job offer in New York, but I'm moving to Philadelphia.

Yeah, you really should pick one town and make it work there (probably the one you'd actually rather live in). Then, just make the job work. That'll keep the peace better too.

Have you already bought a house in CS? If not, change plans.

PLEASE DON'T do this , I25 is already a mess and more commuters will NOT help.

Is the (somewhat) lower price in CS worth it?

The ONLY people who think I25 is not "bad" are from east/west coast hellholes where a daily 4 hour commute is "normal".

It's not just the narrow two lanes in between Monument and Castle Rock - once you reach Denver, traffic getting into Denver during rush hours is terrible. My husband had to do the opposite for a brief period - living in Denver, working in CS. Getting from CS into Denver during rush hour would take him an average of 2 hours. Fortunately, it was temporary, only for about 2 months. But absolutely no way would I recommend anyone do this long term.

Why is your family "all set" to live in Colorado Springs? What made them decide on that? The lower housing prices appeals to many, but honestly the prices are quickly going up and it's not worth the wasted time spent in a car when you could be at home with your family.

I had a coworker who did this for about two years. She was in a van pool and on snowy days would work from home. For a while she had an apartment in the Denver area and would stay there during the week, then go home to her husband on the weekends in Colorado Springs. Listening to her describe it though it just sounded awful. Maybe 20 years ago when traffic wasn't so bad it could've been reasonable but now it can take hours during rush hour to just get from one part of the Denver metro area to another. Each person is different but if it was me I would never want to do it!
