I have a potential job offer in Rifle CO. I have been to Glenwood Springs but I haven't been to Rifle. What is it like? I vacation in Colorado a lot, mostly to the mountain towns. It's my dream to move to Colorado for the hiking, skiing, mountains, weather, scenery. Rifle would be quite different from other parts of the state, like the Front Range, though. Is it a decent place to live? Or is it a desolate depressing place?

Rifle's not as desolate as, say, Craig, but it's not right in the middle of the action, either. It's almost 3 hours from Denver and only an hour from Grand Junction, but it's close to Glenwood Springs and Aspen.

A better question is where you're coming from? If it's a large/major city you may be in for culture shock because Rifle's tiny. That area of the state is also very conservative, and it more closely resembles Utah than the stereotypical representation of Colorado.

You might consider living in Glenwood or even New Castle if you want a little more social activity and you can afford it. Rifle does have Rifle Falls, Reservoir and Harvey Gap park which are all beautiful. There is a Super Walmart in town and more to offer in Glenwood. I have a couple friends who live there and like it, it was more affordable than Glenwood and the commute is pretty easy.

One of my friend got a great offer form Rifle employer (1960s)

Turned out to be a boss-from-hxll, and no place / other jobs to escape to.

Unfortunately, my friend had bought a house and planned to stay; so the ending turned out very bad for his family and checkbook.

Just be careful and have a Plan B (and Plan C)
