Default simple question...

The Colorado city/town with the best cost of living, a medical center, and a good chance of finding work for someone willing to work. Simple as that. Your suggestions and opinions appreciated.

What kind of work are you looking for? There are many people willing to work out here.

What is your definiton of a "medical center"? A large hospital? An office complex? Something else?

I'll work. Anything from jockeying a forklift in a warehouse to mucking stalls in a commercial barn to driving a truck...whatever. I've done a lot; I'm honest, resourceful, and dependable, and I am willing to work.
When I say a medical center, I mean a hospital.

I'm looking for folks to throw some town/city names out there that they feel might be an option for what I've described.

Denver. Not the lowest cost of living in the state, but when you factor in potential to make a good wage with the relatively high demand for willing labor, it's probably the best. It's the hub of medical facilities for not only the state but the whole region.

You can also check out Fort Collins, Colorado Springs, and some of the other front range cities.

What wage or salary do you demand?

Montrose. An expanding community hospital- they just opened a new cancer center, and my older lady friend in Montrose no longer has to drive 130 miles round-trip to Grand Junction for treatments.
Durango has a very nice expanding medical center (Mercy) but the cost of housing is very high, pretty much like it is around Boston, and the salary for the *one* RN job in Durango that is what I do (psych/detox) was about $20/hour less. I'd hate to have the only job for 300 miles around and have it end.
I favor the Western Slope, but medical facilities are pretty thin. The Front Range has a lot more, of course, but still amazingly little psych/detox. I guess I live in Disneyland here in Boston.

I don't generally do a lot of demanding!
Seriously though, I guess it would depend on the job and the cost of living in the area the job was in. I've found that wages often tend to reflect living costs. So I take that into consideration along with the fact that mine would be one of two incomes. And we're not looking for anything really fancy...older and modest house would be fine (fixer-upper even). Just looking for a nice place to work and raise our kids and, well...just live.

hey tfox and brightdoglover...
thanks for the ideas. They are good ones, and I'm keeping those places in the mix.

Would $10/hr be sufficient?

If it was something like scooting around on a forklift all day? Maybe with some good benefits thrown in? That would probably be fine...at least to get going. Again, I'd have to weigh that against the cost of living in "x" place, but sure.

You could live in just about any city along the Front Range. There are hospitals everywhere from Ft Collins to Pueblo. And if you don't specialize in a field than getting a job anywhere is pretty much hit and miss. Pueblo has the lowest cost of living and the mildest winter weather, although it's warmer in the summer.
