I was looking at photos of San Luis Peak, one of the most remote fourteeners

Colorado's fourteeners: San Luis Peak | Colorado Springs Gazette, News

Seems Creede is the closest town. That area has beautiful scenery.

Have any of you stayed in Creede? Any hotel recommendations? I think I'd like to visit during mid-July.

My memory is that Creede tends to be pricey. South Fork is another option.

Can't help, I've never been there, but desperately want to go...for this. Not ez to get to & the road is so bad, I guess they recco ATV rather than jeep, but if you're crazy abt geologic formations, like I am, it would be a shame to be in the area & miss it.

Creede is a great little town. We stopped there, had lunch, and went to the museum before continuing on to Lake City where we spent the night. The whole drive between South Fork and Lake City is very scenic.

Would LOVE to go to Wheeler, MsMetal, but it does look like quite the trek to get there.
