I went to school there for four years (ASC). Just be prepared for two, really BIG things that I really can't adequately describe. The cold in the winter and the isolation from a city. Of course, when I lived there we didn't even have a K-Mart. Sonic had just arrived and it was big news. And the cold is extreme; below zero and humid due to the river and high water table.

I still love the town. I've thought about retiring there due to the COL. Less than $200k would buy a really nice place. However, as I get older, medical services become a concern. The closest city to seek remedy would be Pueblo. But overall, Alamosa did capture my heart. The views at sunset are spectacular and the trees coated with ice magnificent. Just visit, especially during winter, before deciding to move.

Cute town. If they bought in one of the ranches off 160 would they hsve water? Driving through San Luis it looked like a lot of off the grid homes or permanent camping type stuff. Alarmists is nice through.
