I was just wondering how CO handles parking cars off the highway at night.

There is this spot in Silverthorne off of Hwy 9 that I found, and I would love to shoot some night photos. The only problem is that the only real way to get there is to park my car off the highway, then walk in through the brush to find the spot. Night photography takes time, and I could be away for an hour easily.

I know Hwy 9 isn't that busy of a road compared to others, and I am not leaving my car over night or anything. I would just hate to get it towed while I was shooting, and get stranded out there in the middle of the night.

Could I leave a note on the dash that says the time, and what time I will be returning? Maybe even lie a bit, and say, "low on oil, getting ride into town (date/time)"?

You could leave a note but also put your hazards on, I'd say....

If you out your hazards on, you're attracting attention and saying you need help. I agree with leaving a note.

I wouldn't advertise a specific return time. That would just help a thief who's interested in breaking in, or stealing your wheels. I would just scribble something like... "getting gas, back soon".

Leave a note. Any parked cars on the highway will usually get a red tag on the windshield and towed in 24 hours.
