Total snowfall

The precipitation forecast from Thursday night through Monday morning is impressive, with an average of about 1.0 - 1.5 inches of precipitation in the central and northern mountains. Using a rough snow-to-liquid ratio of 12-to-1 (denser than normal due to warm temperatures), this equates to 12-18 inches of total snowfall.

This hazardous weather outlook is for eastern Utah and western
Colorado.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

Clouds and showers will increase across the area today with snow
favoring the northwest Colorado and central Colorado mountains
along the divide for elevations above 9000 feet. Travel impacts
are possible this morning through noon over Rabbit Ears and Vail
Pass with scattered showers continuing through this evening.
Temperatures will remain mild with above normal readings.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday

A much more potent system will move in over the weekend. This
system will bring significant moisture to the region late Saturday
afternoon and evening into Sunday morning, with heavy rain
and thunderstorms possible. Snow level will remain fairly high
throughout much of this weekend storm as temperatures will be very
warm, with rain likely even at the high elevations. Localized
flooding is possible as well as mudslides and debris flows on
steep higher terrain. Dry and mild weather returns Monday through
Wednesday for a dry start to the coming work week.

It's snowing in Colorado Springs, lightly for most of the day. Sticking in the grass at my home in the Fountain Valley.

Raining near Montrose this morning just a trace so far. Forecast is for nearly a half inch of rain and storms this evening. I sure hope so.

I sure hope so. Had 2" of snow here in the East yesterday.
Leaving for CO on April 18, and hope for no major severe weather across I-70.
