I am currently at the Holiday Inn in Limon and hoping to come to Ridgway Saturday on 50! What do you recommend for a site for info? Thanks so much.

COTrip is essential for checking winter mountain driving conditions. If you're on facebook, the CDOT facebook page also does a good job about keeping people informed of closures.

I would imagine everything ought to be cleared out by the time you come through tomorrow, but maybe check conditions once you get to Canon City or Salida. Worst case scenario you add a little time to your trip by going down from Poncha Springs over to Saguache and taking Cochetopa Pass to Gunnison instead of Monarch Pass.

Have a safe trip!

Thank you. My dog is still on Eastern Time and I took him out at 5a in Limon. I will be checking on CDOT.

We do have snow south of Colorado Springs - I bet that burn scar in Hanover will start greening up soon. Last night we had Thundersnow - one strong bolt of lightning and thunder while it was snowing outside - love it!

.SNOW IN THE MOUNTAINS DECREASING THIS MORNING...

.A storm system will move slowly east away from Colorado today.
Light snow will continue over the higher mountains and Front Range
foothills this morning, then decrease to scattered light showers
this afternoon. Additional accumulations of 1 to 4 inches can be
expected over the mountains and higher foothills, with lighter
amounts in the lower foothills. Roads in most areas will be wet,
but there will be areas of slush or ice over the mountain passes.

Just a little snow spitting and warm here in Limon. Reports are good for Route 50. Should be good to go in a while -my traveling companions (2-leggeds) are barely awake. Dogs are all set. What a strange road trip this has been. And a fast one. Now I know why my new Subaru with the smashed rear window has a sixth gear. I told my other driver that we will NOT be going so fast on 50!

Jim, is there a way to go from Limon to Montrose that skips Monarch Pass?

I think you’d have to stay on 70 all the way to a Grand Junction, then cut down.

What about the passes outside Denver?

I think we'll wait it out. Are the camera shots of passes in real time, do you know? I saw a shot of 550 in Ridgway that was very snowy looking, but reports are that the roads are dry. ??
