Help Please!
My husband has just accepted a job in the Boulder/Longmont area and we will probably be moving (from SC) in late January/early February. I have never lived outside of SC and am, of course, a little nervous. Right now my biggest concern is the logistics of the actual move. I have 3 sons (one 12, one 10 and one 2). The 12 and 10 year old will have to leave their current schools and start school in Boulder in the middle of the year. I've also got a cat and a dog and can't figure out the best way to get everyone out there and settled in the easiest manner, including getting the kids in school without having them miss too much (that one really concerns me - enrolling them, making the transition as easy as possible on them...).
We will have movers provided and will all drive out together (a good 3-day trip). A rental will be provided for a short while but we'll have to find a home to buy once we get out there.
If there is anyone out there who has made this kind of cross country move with children (and/or pets), in the middle of the school year, who has any advice or tips, please share!!!
Thank you!

This is how we did it.
We had movers take all are belongings and we drove (CA to CO). Before leaving we got prequalified with a local property management company. Upon arriving we checked into a local hotel. The next day we went and looked at the available rentals and picked one, did the paper work and had the moving van bring our belongings. After that we enrolled the kids in school and took care of getting drivers license and vehicle registration.
We rented for 6 months, giving us time to really check out the area and find a home to buy.
What helped me the most is that I did all my research before we left and new exactly what our agenda was going to be. I researched the tasks that needed to be done and was prepared. I had all the needed documents, new where everything was, what the procedure was etc.....
Good luck, you will do just fine.

I'm sure that there are a hundred different ways that you could do it and whatever you chose would work out great.
Myself, I start a job in Colorado Springs on Jan 2nd and have decided that I will go out before my wife, daughter, and two dogs. We will then buy a house and once we close, I will move the family from San Diego to the new home.
I really stressed about how we should do the move. Once we made a final decision, it all just started to fall into place. I looked for a month to month apartment rental and just happened to find one that was available. It's fantastic how those details just kind of work themselves out!
I already know that it will be difficult to be away from the family and my wife will have a lot of work cut out for her, but we feel like it will be worth the sacrafice to make a smooth transition for everyone. My wife a daughter will fly out to COS every few weeks so we can look at houses to buy and visit.
I wish you the best of luck in your move. Remember, whatever you choose is going to work out fine.
