So I'm a Kansas girl and I've been eyeballing Pueblo for some time. I am hoping to get some information on how much a usual utility bill is and where the safest parts of town are for a family. I saw that it is said to have a high crime rate, but I wanted to get the information straight from locals. We have one 16 month old and one due in June. So...good obgyn suggestions would be appreciated as well. We need a change, so if there is anything for or against just let me know!

Utilities will vary by dwelling size, equipment, your behavior and whether in or outside city. In general, utility costs in Pueblo average about 10% less than national average. By comparison, Lawrence KS utility costs are smack on national average.

IIRC, utility rates in COLO SPGS are a good 15-20% LOWER than Pueblo as in COLO SPGS the city owns the main utility (COL SPGS Utilities) and Pueblo has the for-profit Black Hills Energy firm running the show.

Well, despite some bad schools, higher unemployment, and some high crime areas, Pueblo is a pretty neat city with a great and diverse history, interesting and diverse architecture, a major reservoir next door and river running through the middle of it, and entertainment ranging from high brow arts and plays to more blue collar oriented auto racing, car shows, and the State Fair.

I'm looking at Pueblo specifically because it has a similar cost to living to the Wichita KS area. I'm also making sure I try to find a city where they have table top gaming, Warhammer 40000. We don't care about things to do like movies and all that, but gaming. If you know of a city that has that and is comparable I'm all ears. All in all though I'm wanting a new start where we have never been. Oh and I suppose I should add that I am trying to find some place with a smaller population....like 40000 or less. That has rural areas I can recluse to. Lol

Pueblo's urban area is close to 140K, is that too big?
CO is pretty lacking in non-metro cities in that size range. I don't know anything about the type of gaming you're looking for.
Cañon City, Sterling, and Fort Morgan may be worth a look as well.
