Flying into area in a couple of days. Looking to take a plunge to prep for retirement. Lived all over Colorado for almost 14 yrs back in the 80's. Even helped build bridges thru the Glenwood Canyon. Married my wife in
Colorado Springs and had our 1st born their. A lot has changed since then. Our last visit was a couple years ago. So, my question to those who might have transplanted and moved to the front range is this? Are you as happy as you thought you would be and where did you settle? Were you as semi familiar as what we believe we are? We bought and sold two homes in COS before moving back east for the last almost 30 yrs. We both look back sadly at our decision to leave but crime was getting so much worse than it had ever been. New to this City Data thing and enjoy most of everyone's input. Thank you.

Confused by the title. Are you looking for a Banana Belt on the Front Range?

I was confused too. OP, if you're looking for a banana belt, take a look at Cañon City.

Violent crime did peak in the 1990s in Colo Spgs and has been declining ever since. We do see occasional upticks in certain categories, but is still trending down per capita.

If you lived here previously, then I'd imagine you are aware of CO's "banana belt" along the Arkansas River Valley. Are you looking for info on that region, Colo Spgs, or just transplant input in general? There are several extensive topics in here about the pros/cons of the last decade's growth here on CD.com. It is quite a bit different than when you left 30 years ago.

I think the person is asking for input from people who moved to CO from 'banana belt' climates...?
