My husband and I are looking to move to Colorado from Prescott, Arizona. We are drawn to the mountains and the cooler climate! We are fairly open to anywhere in Colorado but have a few things that are important to us-

- my husband works for the airlines so being within an hour or so from Denver would be ideal for commuting

- we have small children under the age of 6 so somewhere with a good family community vibe

- a smaller town/community is very important to us. Prescott has a population of about 50k and we love the sense of community. If we could find a a close knit town with maybe less than 100k that would be awesome!

- we are Christians and would love a church community we could get involved in

- we tend to lean conservative which doesn’t mean we want to stay away from a liberal area (we realize this is colorado) but maybe somewhere that has a fairly balanced political viewpoint if possible

- we do love to ski so being within an hour or so to a ski resort would be great

Any advice or direction you have would be fantastic!! Thank you!!

Go west or south of Denver. Castle Rock, Evergreen, Parker, etc.

I would check out Parker, Castle Rock and southeast Aurora like Tallyn's Reach.

The northern side of Parker. Conservative and a little more than 30 mins from the airport if you don't live too far from E470, and if you can afford to use a toll road daily. A little more mixed politically, a bit more diverse, and still not far from the airport, would be eastern Centennial and south- and southeast Aurora, all good family communities. Zipcode 80016 for these areas. Your budget will made a big difference, however.

I think Evergreen and the western communities would probably be too far. I live in SW Littleton and it takes me more than an hour to get to DIA.

Depending on what you want. Green Valley Ranch is nice and has many new developments with single family homes starting at under $400k but the eastern suburbs near Aurora don't have as good a rep as other areas, with a possible exception being the DTC area. If you want something more upscale, you might check out either Centennial or the Cherry Creek area.

We live on the south end of Castle Rock, and it takes me about 45 min to get to the airport (via 225 with no tolls) - but I usually go pretty early in the AM. E470 is always there for a reliable 45 min or under to the airport (but with tolls).

We really love it here - Downtown Castle Rock is adorable and has a lot of events throughout the year. There are mixed demographics from a political standpoint, but people do lean conservative. I think it would be worth a visit since it checks all of your boxes except being within 1 hour to a ski resort... but I think most of the places that are close to skiing don't work with the commute.

Are you looking for an area with houses closer together, or on a larger lot, or acreage?

Parker, Franktown, and Elizabeth are also worth checking out to the east, Castle Pines to the north, and Highlands Ranch to the west.

Golden?

It's smaller than you are asking for, but hits most of the wish list.
