Being within an hour of skiing and an hour or so from DIA will be very tough if not impossible from the Denver metro area and the foothills due to traffic and/or weather. If you check out Parker or Castle Rock like some suggested, you will be within an hour of DIA for sure via E-470, but definitely not within an hour of skiing.

For everything that you are looking for and as close to the travel times that you want, I would suggest Evergreen, Conifer or mountain area Morrison. There are plenty of friends and community members that I know personally who are airline pilots and flight attendants and choose to live here. Schools are highly rated, politics are 50/50-ish and skiing is about 1hr 15 min from most parts of the foothills.

What is your budget? Home prices are higher in these areas than other parts of Denver.

Louisville, Niwot, Gunbarrel = nice community quite close to DEN and to Eldora

alternatively Loveland and Berthoud. Good communities for family, farther away (1 hr to DEN), less people, closer to WY +++
