416 is at 29,000 acres / 15% contained with one week burning.

for perspective... (non-colorado) our region lost 236,000 acres in 36 hrs. (1900's)
Last yr (evacuated) our little 50,000 acre burn could have done similar if not for favorable winds that blew the fire back over itself 3 times)

Use Defensible Space, but sometimes the battle is too huge to save your place..

Good luck.

Today, BLM Royal Gorge Field Office begins Stage 1 fire restrictions on all BLM-managed public lands in Boulder, Gilpin, and Lake Counties, and begins Stage 2 restrictions in Chafee, Custer, Fremont, Huerfano, Las Animas, and Pueblo Counties. Stage 1 restrictions are also in effect for Jefferson County as of June 11, 2018. These decisions are based on current fire danger and predicted weather conditions. More info: 719-269-8500.

Final update for the night of #UpperMailboxFire: The Incident Command Post (ICP) is standing guard and working on strategy. Operations will continue throughout the night. The pre-evacuation order for Ragsdale Road is still in place. Changes to that will be announced here.
The BLM - Southwest Colorado Fire and Aviation Management Unit released earlier today that the state’s multi-mission aircraft estimated the fire at 262 acres with no estimate for containment. The fire is northeast of Redvale in the west end of Montrose County. The terrain is pinyon-juniper with elevation variations.

8:29 AM Update on Upper Mailbox Fire per BLM- Southwest Colorado Fire and Aviation Management Unit: Size estimate about 400 acres. Four confirmed spot fires north of the San Miguel River with resources on scene making progress on getting line around them. Recon flight planned this morning for more accurate perimeter/size. Type 3 Incident Management Team to take command of the fire later today. #UpperMailboxFire

The situation on 550? Yea, that is pretty concerning regarding mudslides. We'll see what happens over the next couple days.

It started sprinkling a little after noon. And that's about it-at least it's a steady sprinkle. I'm not going to say "much ado about nothing", not yet anyway. But the western slope needs a damn site more than this. Maybe south of Jim9251 it is coming down more.

Jim, whatcha got regarding this storm? I was in Delta this morning but skies were just partly cloudy at that time.

Flash Flood Watch tonight for the burn scar area, heavy rain forecast this evening. So far today here (west of Montrose) I've gotten maybe 1/10" an inch.

YAY! It's been raining here for the past 24 hours, and it's been light but steady. This means no flash floods since the rain has been coming down at a rate that allows it to sink into the soil without just running off. Woke up in the middle of the night last night to the sound of thunder and falling rain. Sweet! This will help tamp down the 416 and Burro fires with more rain predicted throughout the day. Plus, they managed to get in all of the first cutting of hay before the onset of the rains on the farm where I live, and the hay barn is stacked high with the bales. Everything smells like newly cut grass and water. I'm loving it!

Slow steady rain here yesterday, too, no thunder but a nice damping down. Glad they got the hay in because how much can you plan for rain?! I do hope there is more to come but it looks like the blasting sun/heat might be off the table for now. I notice that my seeded areas are showing signs of hopeful shoots.

Finally- around 12:30 p.m.--a downpour worth noting in Mesa County. It was only for 15 minutes but beggars can't be choosers.
