We might be relocating to work in Vail and we have two small children, so need to find a location thatís commutable to the Vail area and has good public schools, specifically elementary. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you!!!

What is your budget? Can you afford to live in Vail itself?

Then I'd try to find a place in Vail itself.

I don't live in Vail, but I know someone who does. They rented a place in Denver and the mother/son lived there during the week to attend school rather than attend the one public elementary school in Vail. This apparently, is less expensive than attending the local private school (Vail Mountain School), which has a great reputation. From what I hear, the population at the Vail public elementary school is transient in nature. Seasonal workers coming in for the season with their families, then leaving. Thus, there's little consistency and kids don't have the opportunity to acclimate to the school, the teachers and the daily routine -- academics and classroom behavior suffer as a result. This was a couple of years ago. Things may be different now.

I don't have kids but I live in the Vail area. The seasonal workers don't bring their families, they are young adults here to play for a winter. So your friend has a very incorrect perception of the area. I've lived in Colorado ski resort areas for over 20 years, she is mistaken.

$3300 will not get you a rental in Vail. Look at Eagle-Vail for a great community along with Edwards, specifically Homestead or Singletree, plan on upping your budget or look at Eagle.

Eagle County Charter Academy is well regarded as a public school, there are others. I suggest you go on Facebook and join Vail Moms for some real information from people who live here.

My friend rents her 3BR house in West Vail for $800 a night on Airbnb. $3300 a month will not find you family housing.
