Default Home Construction in Colorado

Looking to move to Colorado and after reviewing a bunch of dreary ranch houses or midget McMansion-style colonials I've decided to build.

Anyone know of a good honest, creative builder in the Durango/Pagosa Springs area that would be willing to work with me on a 1600-1800 sq ft home?

Anyone with experience in building a home in this area please give me a clue as to what I'm letting myself in for! Any info on average lot improvement and home building costs would be helpful.

Durango has lots of builders, just wish I knew them personally. There are many who build earthships there and underground homes, adobe, earth packed, solar homes and so forth. When you get to Durango, go to the local chamber on South Camino Del Rio and Santa Rita Drive, they can probably direct you to someone.

your lucky to be moving here if you do not like Colonial homes, here you will find a fascination with Craftsman, Old world (mixture of European styles) and prairie styles. Unfortunately I have not done any design work that bas been built in Pagosa or Durango so I am not of any help with that part.
