Haha there are alot of Michigan natives in CO as well, I believe half of my friends are from CA and the other half from the great lakes! But I think you will love Fort Collins, CSU is a lot more down to earth than CU or DU. Evergreen and Idaho Springs are good choices too, less crowded I would say but hard to meet people. I'd go with FOCO if you don't know anyone in Colorado just yet. I have a good friend who lives in Evergreen and loves it, but had a hard time meeting people.

Default Try a ski resort!

If you just want to bum around for a season, they are always hiring temp people over the winter. Finding a place to live can be hard, but it sounds like you aren't averse to roughing it. Then you are close to skiing and getting paid for it!

I vote Evergreen......I had the same exact dream as you and at 25 I finally just moved to Evergreen in Mid Feb.......Colorado has made me the happiest person alive I absolutely can't believe that I am here.........GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!
