Typically no, the frequent damaging hail storms are a Front Range occurrence which is good for all the produce, orchards and vineyards on the Western Slope.

Not really, I've been in Mesa County for a long time now, I believe it has hailed only a half dozen times--usually pea size hail. One time it was marble size. Usually all those storms were in the middle of March.



It HAS hailed in Durango a couple times in the last few years.

Having lived in Colorado all my adult life I was shocked to hear from my sisters (Austin/Houston/Philly) that they have to save up money for a new roof. :P "Doesn't the insurance cover it due to hail?"

My sister in Philly dreams in vain for a hailstorm that will enable her to replace her siding with insurance money.

Many insurance companies in Colorado are now changing the standard $1K deductible for hail damage to a deductible that is now 2% of the house value.

So on a house worth $500K the $1K deductible grows to $10K.

They sneak this in upon renewal. So make sure you read the fine print upon renewal.

That was quite a big storm.

I have friends that work with animals at the zoo - they are so devastated right now. I got hit, and my parents and brother did too - and they both had gotten hit in that bad one in June, too, some things were still being fixed from that one. My brother's house had one hour of roof work left and will need a new roof again. Between he and his 3 kids they had 5 cars destroyed in the last storm destroyed again. We're so deductibled out - making us beyond broke. I found 3 dead birds in my front yard so far.
