Glad you decided on a hotel!

I have to drive from Colorado Springs to Pueblo every morning, leaving about 7 to be at work by 8. The speed limit is 75 (IMO a bit fast for me). No traffic typically but lots of cars heading south.

Coming back home, leaving at 5, I tend to catch about 10-15 minutes worth of traffic in Colorado Springs. But if I can wait until 5:300ish to leave, I tend to avoid that.

I hope you enjoy the conference! When is it? The CO State Fair is happening through this weekend so that is something to do.

I'd stay in Pueblo or Springs and explore the mountains. Rye, CO is nice.

I call the drive between Denver and C. Springs the "Killing Fields". Done it a few hundreds of times. Will not do it during rush hour, I wait for the next day if I can.
For that infamous 18 mile stretch of only two lanes between Castle Rock and Monument there seems to be wrecks every day. If that happens I bail out and take route 105 between Sedalia and Monument. It's usually an easy scenic drive with little traffic.
