I'm a Puebloan born and raised 40+ years old. I can't stand "transplants" (People who relocate here and think they are experts on our culture and put us down .)
Moderator cut: please discuss the topic and not other members
There was a time when Pueblo was famous for it's Mexican food and pork green chili. People would go out to Gus's produce or Thomas's and pick or buy Pueblo green chili's by the bushels they would roast it and peel it themselves. This is what gave pork green chili it's wonderful flavor.
Pueblo green chili's are not like New Mexico hatch green chili's they are different. Just like pork green chili in Pueblo is different than green chili in New Mexico.
I have spent alot of time in northern New Mexico and could hardly wait to come back home for some good green chili. I once ordered huevos rancheros in a little restaurant in Espanola and was served eggs and potatoes with a can of Ortega diced jalepeno's dumped over them. I had so called smothered enchiladas with pork green chili in Taos. You had to find the pork with a magnifying glass and it had so little chili in it it tasted like a brown sauce.
I can go on and on about the difference.
A good "reviewer" for example when hearing about the frozen pork green chili that a local "convenience store ", (The Store does not make it they sell it.) would at least find some green chili from the store and eat it before voicing an opinion based on pure ignorance.
After tasting this chil, I'm sure he should say WoW that's pretty cool if you can't make green chili at home for whatever reason you can be sure that you can get some pretty good green chili at the Loaf n Jug. How handy is that? just like I can pick up a box of Kellogg's frosted flakes! Wow, Just because I'm buying them at a "convenience" store does not make them taste different than buying them at Safeway.
As far as the burritos go, You are comparing the frozen burritos in the heat them yourself section to Bettys and other local restaurants. These frozen burritos such as the bomb which you referred to in a previous post are definately not anything like Pueblo Colorado Mexican Food.
You will find a variety of burritos in the Real Time Cafe warmer by the check out stand in most stores. These burritos are warmed up and ready to go. You can read the label and find that there is no soy protien or other fillers and they are made with REAL food. You said in an earlier post that you didn't like the real spicy food. I suggest you try the mild bean and beef or the Fat Boy with cheese. The other varieties are pretty spicy.
The pork green chili is like Authentic Pueblo pork green chili not New Mexico not Tex Mex. Nor is it like The Mexican Chile Verde or Puerco Colorado. It tastes just like good old Pueblo pork green chili! It's wonderful to smother burritos with or pour over hashbrowns and eggs. We've also served it over cheeseburgers ala slopper style and made enchiladas with it. we have also used it instead of salsa on tostadas. When you need a fast dip or appetizer for a party, heat it up to a simmering where it's nice and hot. turn it off add either shredded or cubed colby jack around 3 cups to a quart. transfer to a mini crock and keep on low. and serve with tostido SCOOPS!. totally deelish.
Why not check it out and cover the facts instead of talking smack.

Good for you. You should get out more. If you're like me and if you've been to the San Fernando Valley, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and various spots south of the border, then you can compare different cuisines; not just Burrito Betty's to Scarf'n'barf to Arribas. Get over yourself.
I've had good food at Cactus Flower. In fact, I think it's a nicely run joint, franchise or not.
I don't care how long you've lived here or how many generations you go back. I make better green chile than y'all and I could care less what they did back at Guss's back in the day. Sometimes I get sick of green and like the red, especially at Gray's Coors Tavern!
I've been on City-Data for 2+ years and I'll talk all the smack I wanna talk. You can get a towel and dry the moisture behind your ears and eat a few more bags of potatos before you tell me what I ought to do in my own thread.

Looking forward to seeing an Italian Restaurant thread. In fact, I need recommendations for tomorrow, it's my mom's birthday and I really don't want to go to Olive Garden. She loves Italian food.

We LOVE Taco Shells on McCulloch. Friday is Bean Tostada for $1... $3 for a smothered burrito and their green chilie is my favorite in the area. We don't get the meals, individual items are the best, but there's no better mexican in the area.

Cactus Flower and Nacho's (in downtown) are the two that I tried and liked. We go down there every few months and have 'Mexican Mondays' with our family down there, so I'm always looking for new suggestions.
What was the consensus over the past 6 discussion pages, any hands-down favorites?

I don't know about Pueblo Mexican food but here in Colorado Springs its Pueblo Viejo. This is the absolute best food, service, atmosphere for a sit down type restaurant. It is worth the drive up from Pueblo. After dinner hit up El Rodeo niteclub for great live bands and a huge dancefloor!
