I'm relatively new to the state myself. From my understanding, there have been many people moving here from California in recent years. Was Colorado a more conservative state (including the front range) before they started to arrive? Did they significantly change the politics of the state?

Would it matter if the Californians moving here are doing so because they are more conservative than the CA politics they are leaving?

In my opinion, CO has always been a fairly mixed bag politically and has swung in numerous directions over time. Colorado has elected 17 Democrats and 12 Republicans to the governorship in the last 100 years. In the same time in presidential elections, votes went to Democrats 10 times and Republican 17 times. It is rare that either party dominates presidential voting for more than 3-4 cycles, except for the 1970s-80s when the entire nation was voting predominately Republican.

I think it’s mandatory to take a shot at Ca for anyone who transplants themselves to Co or Oregon. Makes them feel simpatico and accepted by the nimbys.

Yes. 3 straight presidential elections have been won by the Democratic Party candidate.

Yet we still have a Republican State Senate and four of our seven US representatives are Republicans.

In my lifetime (since the late 70s) Colorado has had 4 Democratic Governors and only 1 Republican. Voting for Dems is hardly a new phenomenon in Colorado.

Aren't there just as many conservative Texans moving here as there are liberal Californians?

Agreed.

When we came here in 1980, before most of the millennials were born, there was a Democratic governor, a Republican senator and a Democratic senator. There has only been one Republican governor in the whole time we've been here (Bill Owens). There have been Democratic and Republican senators in about equal numbers.
