Hello, I came across an article from 1989 discussing store closures related to Duckwall-ALCO's recent Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing and was wondering if anyone knew where the ALCO Discount stores that closed in Loveland, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo were. There were three stores in Colorado Springs and two in Pueblo. ALCO maintained a presence in Colorado though their Chapter 7 filing in 2014, but the stores were mostly in smaller towns like Burlington and Lamar.

In Colorado Springs one was located in a small mall that is no longer there, the Mall of the Bluffs at Austin Bluffs and Academy. One of the anchor stores was the King Soopers grocery store which is still there but that commercial development was remodeled many years ago and the old mall was torn down and turned into a more modern style retail strip development. I remember Cañon City Colorado still had Alco in buisness many years after the Colorado Springs stores closed. My parents shopped at Alco quite a bit when we were kids.

There was one in Security on Fontaine Blvd. into the early 80s - it is now a Big R. It sat empty for years and then was some kind of storage or something for many more years until Big R came in.

Loveland Alco was on NE corner of Madison and Eisenhower (east end of town at the time)
Bernharts Phillips 66, and Brown's Corner were adjacent businesses.
Same road as GW Sugar Factory (at the time).

Planet Fitness is next door at the moment
(Alco was KS based, founded 1901)

Gibson's Discount arrived earlier than the Alco, but in west Greeley and was a more comprehensive store, especially for sporting goods. (We still have a Gibson's Discount in a TX town, operating independent (2 remaining) after a peak number of 684 stores).

There used to be one in Downtown Brush, but it closed several years ago. The last place I saw one open was either Sidney or Kimball, Nebraska, but I think they're closed now, too.
