With today being his first day out of office, it got me thinking.....He has publicly stated his desire to run for President, but I think the likelihood of him getting through a Democratic primary is pretty low. On the other hand, I think he could wipe the floor with Cory Gardner.

What do you think he’ll end up doing?

He will run for President and hang around to the convention, but I think he has more of a chance of being a Vice President pick for someone as he is very personable.

Well, if he is going to throw his hat in for 2020, he needs to start building up his profile. Outside of Colorado, few people know much about him.

I'd say, out of your options above, go for the easy target: Gardner. Build his profile in the senate as a moderate pro-business Democrat. And depending on the circumstances, run in 2024, or preferably 2028 (because that would mean Trump was voted out in 2020).

I suspect the Dems will try to run a diverse ticket. So if someone like Beto or Joe Biden gets the nomination, probably not good news for a VP John Hickenlooper.

If someone like Kamala Harris or Elizabeth Warren is nominated, then he may have a better chance. Similar to how Hillary picked Tim Kaine as VP.

Just my .02 cents.

Good point. I just cannot see the Democrats placing two white straight males on the ticket ever again (or at least not in my lifetime, lol).

I think oval office. But he'd make a good Senator too. Either role would be a plus for the people.

Agree and speaking as a straight white male, I think that’s probably a good thing. I’m just curious to see how long Hick tests the national waters before he decides it’s not happening.

I saw this on reddit a few days ago, and thought it was relevant.

Can you guess which party is which?

I think he's too old to be planning a run in 2024 (he'd be 72) and esp. 2028 (76).

I think he's got a far better shot at taking down Cory Gardner than he does at winning the Democratic presidential nomination. The reality is that at this moment in time, being a (somewhat) older, white, male isn't going to excite the Democratic base.

But I would definitely be happy to see him run for Senate, and frankly, I think if he announced for that sooner rather than later, that would pretty much clear the path of many of the better known likely candidates.
