Weekends are brutal (better in April). I used to avoid the worst traffic by leaving around 10, on the lift by 11:30/12 and you still have 4 hours but it seems like no time is a good time anymore unless it is a weekday. I've decided to take of work one or two Fridays / month to maintain my sanity.

Go every weekend, itís never THAT bad. You guys are just divas

I go during the weekdays at times too, but weekends donít bother me.
But you're driving longer than you're actually skiing. That's the part I don't get. I'd rather go 1/3 as many times and actually ski a whole day without lunch.

What if one left on a Friday afternoon after schools got out. How is traffic then?

Depends...

Generally there will be traffic, but nothing too bad. I'm assuming you will pick your kids up at school. If you wait until 4ish it's a lot more likely to be ugly.

Drove up this morning and it was a dream. Dry roads and no traffic. Keystone was deserted, too, with great conditions.

Thanks, brown_dog. That is the plan, pickup right after school and head straight to wherever. We are moving next summer to outside Boulder and will probably pick one resort for the 2019-20 season; one that has a really friendly kid ski program. Eldora, Winter Park?

We do this every Friday. Our kids are in the DEVO program at Vail. It’s a good deal - $1300 for 13 Saturdays with the same kids and same instructor every week. Kids need to be minimum Level 4 skiers.

I pick the kids up on the west side of town at 3:30. It usually takes between 1:40-2:00 to get to Vail. There is volume, but it’s not bad. Traffic picks up the closer you get to 5:00.

The Ikon pass has become the more popular pass for families with kids because it includes Eldora and Winter Park. The Eldora kid program is very popular because it is so easy to get there. Eldora is smaller and the conditions aren't always the best, so eventually you will migrate to Winter Park/Copper/Steamboat through the Ikon pass.

There is also the Epic pass which is for Vail owned resorts plus a few others like Abasin.

If you are heading up to summit county this weekend(feb 9) check on the status of the power outage before you go. There was/is a power outage in summit county today, impacted Dillon down to Breck. They got some power restored, rolling brown outs throughout the day were to be expected. Keystone had a few lifts going on generators, but the line for the gondola was across the bridge and back into the village. I took the day off to avoid the crowds and the lines were worse. It happens. I hung for a bit then decided to leave so I could try and do something productive so I don't waste a day off. As it currently stands, I drove 4 hours to get some donuts.

When I was there, it sounded like they got power restored, but the issue was not permanently fixed. Just in case this rolls into tomorrow, check before you head out.
