With AOC and Sanders, Hick almost looks like a Republican. He won’t have much of a chance. I met him once at an event. He was a nice guy, but came across as the comedian in the room. He is an overachiever and should feel proud of all he has accomplished, but now is the time to retire back to making beer and having fun.

A number of the Democratic candidates for 2020 are waaay too Left for me, especially Bernie Sanders, who is not even a Democrat.

That’s why I like Hickenlooper and Klobuchar. They are sensible and centrist. I’m waiting to see what Beto O’Rourke will do.

After watching Trump’s 2-1/2 hour crazy rant at C-PAC a couple of days ago, all I could think of was how similar Trump is to Fidel Castro, dictator of Cuba before he finally died. Castro was famous for his 3-4 hour rambling, unhinged speeches.

We need to be careful in 2020.

More importantly, it would eliminate the independents, like me, who voted against Hillary last time, but are sick of Trump's nonsense. I would certainly vote for a moderate Dem like Hick, or even Mr. Starbucks, if he runs.

Either way the Dem party is in chaos. They are having their tea party moment with the full on marxist views Sanders and AOC are pushing. The economy is strong, we are in fewer wars, unemployment is so low you have to try not to work at this point.....Trump wins easily.
I don’t think you know what “full on Marxism” is.

Democratic Socialism /= Marxism.
Democratic Socialism /= Socialism either.

Lots of good books on political theory out there. You should read one.

According to Gallup, in Oct 2017, 31% of Americans identified as Democrat, 24% identified as Republican, and 42% as Independent. Among those independents, Gallup further found that 46% are either "Democrats or Democratic leaners" and 39% are either "Republicans or Republican leaners". So it seems that we have a large enough independent percentage that a strong campaign one direction or the other can influence the winner.

Trump tapped into voter anger with the status quo political machine and his promises to drain the swamp and got elected. Since then we've found out an alpha business man has as many skeletons in his closet as an alpha politician and his status quo is not so far removed as he said it was. I'd like to think that many are tired of his tangential politics, but the reality is if there is not a strong Democratic contender to challenge him, he could win again....if he would even take the nomination. Sometimes he looks like he is really tired of the whole administrative requirements of the job and he only really enjoys the limelight it provides.

But, like the link posted by suzco explains, if Hick thinks he can ride into Washington and make everything right because he is a moderate, he is sorely mistaken and I think that is exactly what has happened to the current POTUS.

For those unfamiliar with Andrew Yang this video sums up his position quite nicely. I believe if he secures the DNC nomination he can beat Trump.

I honestly think Hick would give the Democratic Party the best shot to win it all. So far, he's the only Democrat that would likely pull my vote away from Trump. I've voted Republican in every presidential election since Nixon's first term, but I had to hold my nose pulling the lever for Trump. And as much as I dislike him, I'll vote for him once more unless a moderate Democrat with some experience emerges as the nominee. I can't say how many other moderate Republicans feel as I do, but I've gotta think I'm not alone.

I like the idea. Colorado was well run with him at the top.

Can I ask why a less moderate Democrat would be less appealing to you than Trump? Is it purely about policy or something else? If so, which ones are most important to you? I'm not trying to sway your opinion, just seeking to learn more about the primary concerns of right-leaning moderates these days.

As someone that is generally very liberal, at this point I'm looking more for a candidate that can help guide our country back to a place of civil discourse and trust in our institutions more-so than I am looking for specific policy changes. To me, our biggest problem right now isn't Policy X or Policy Y, it's the fact that we're so quick to hate the 'other' and generally aren't listening to each other anymore. Seems like we have to fix that before we can move forward with any meaningful policy changes one ideological direction or the other.

I get plenty excited about different 2020 candidate platforms, but I feel like anything other than wide consensus-driven policy is doomed to only divide us even further right now.
