I am a big sissy which makes it hard to live in Colorado. Like other posters have mentioned, you should be fine on the routes you plan to take. If you are nervous about your route, you can generally search Youtube videos, especially of passes. I have done that more than a few times when planning road trips to see if I can handle it. Seriously, I am a total flatlander living at 8300 feet.

Grand Junction to Durango. Million Dollar Highway. South of Ouray stopped at the first look out and turned around. No guard rails and allegedly 1,800 foot drop-off at maybe 75 degrees. I would walk or bike it, but being strapped in when a car in the other lane gives me a flying lesson is too much for paranoid me to take.

No guard rails because the road is open year round and they need to push the snow off the cliff.

The detour to Durango through Flatlandia was said to be 5 hours more, but was about 3. 5 hours or 5 months, I am not doing that.
