Hi! Can I get some opinions on good areas? Me and my husband plus our 4 little boys are moving to CO in 2 months. We want to live in a very safe area and not be 2in away from neighbors. We are creative adventurous secular homeschoolers so we need our space. But also enjoy community so hoping to find like minded homeschoolers to connect with.

Husband is a professional truck driver CDL and will be taking a job located in North Field area of Denver. His start time will be between 3 to 4am and home time anywhere from 2 to 6pm.

Im looking at Castle Rock. Low crime. Homes with big back yards and rent price within budget. But not sure about commute time and overall culture of the community there. Can you tell me more about it?

Any input is appreciated but please be kind. Open to suggestions for other areas you think may be a good fit.

Thank you!

Are you aware it is 35 miles one-way between Northfield and Castle Rock, over 2 of the most quickly congested expressways ? While the AM commute might be livable, the afternoon would be a killer, especially for someone who spends all day driving.

If you need space, and are not concerned about local schools, try looking east on I-70 around Watkins or Bennett.

Creative and adventurous homeschoolers and trucking dads need SPACE to run. Head for the farm (as above ...Bennett (or nearby) east of Denver). Or NE / Wiggins direction. or East of DIA.

There will not be affordable rural foothills / mtn land near Denver Metro.

If housing costs are a burden, look to become a 'caretaker' of a farm. They often have extra houses, and many farmers are getting to retirement age and would love to have an energetic family to help out with the many tasks of keeping a farm in tip-top shape. As homeschoolers we did a lot of volunteer work for rural seniors.

Go east past E-470, but west of Watkins. Green Valley Ranch in Denver or Reunion/Buffalo Run in Commerce City would work but the yards aren't huge. Brighton and Henderson are also possibilities.

Castle Rock is simply insane commute wise.

This is going to be difficult in a Denver suburb because all of the lots are close to a 1/10th of an acre. You will find larger lots to the East or North East that meet your needs but it'll be more of a country/rural feel.

If you can't find a place on a farm.
get the kids a city place adjacent from their yard to a greenbelt / park.

(4+1) boys need to run (and hide) and explore.

$2400 should avail that.

Husband will be commuting from future home to Northfield only 3x a week and it would rarely be during peak traffic times. Im seeing a few really nice places in Parker. If he takes E-470 to Northfield from South Parker you think that might be less insane?

Yes, but be sure to factor in toll costs. It'll be $5.90 roundtrip for a 2-axle vehicle with an Expresstoll tag between Parker Road and the I-70 interchange.
