I'm trying to do some research on Grand Junction and saw this thread. I know the area is beautiful - I've been there a few times but didn't do a whole lot of exploring in town, just downtown (we mostly came to visit Colorado National Monument, which is my opinion is highly underrated compared to other Colorado parks - maybe it's just not as well known?).

We're considering a move after living in the Denver area for 13 years. I am over the traffic and crowds and high cost of living there. We sold our house last December and are now temporarily living in the Midwest. I'm working on building a consulting business and my husband can probably find a job anywhere (social work type stuff). We are considering Grand Junction because it's amazing on the western slope in terms of beauty and seems MUCH less crowded (and less expensive) than Denver.

What is it like to live there? Are the schools good? Do you have any suggestions for other threads to check out on this information?

Thanks!

We have only been here a month but will hopefully not leave for the next 30 years until I retire and move back to Montana, but even that's a big if at this point, we love GJ that much.

Context: Grew up in the mountains of GA, joined the mil, lived in DC for awhile (actual DC not suburbs), then Coronado in San Diego, Montana, a completely horrible 3 years in WV, and finally got transferred here.

We've bought a house, the downtown is lovely, the scenery is amazing. We haven't lived through a winter or summer yet but were here in August and it's wonderful to be hot but then step into the shade and be instantly cool, something you do not get in humid areas.

Traffic is non-existent, at least that we have found. The streets are wide, paved, cleaned, and generally traffic patterns are planned.

The sun shines almost every day.

We don't have a child in school yet but you are able to send your child to any school in the county that I've heard, though transportation is on you if it's out of your district. No one has said anything bad about the schools I've found.

There are enough amenities to satisfy us. There aren't 5 star restaurants but there are good food places.

I'm disappointed the cowboys don't take off their hats at the table. Even the old men. I expect bros to wear backwards hats at the table, but expected the cowboy types to still follow that tradition. Disappointed I'm one of the few who still does that but seriously if that's my only complaint about here not doing too bad.
