If he accurately represents the feelings of his constituents, so be it. Let them vote him out or vote him back to power, depending on their will. I don't believe in interfering with the democratic process in the way you suggest.

Any comments?

Unfortunately, that's the way some Americans feel. Too Sad.

Yes, it is sad that some Americans agree. Even lots of Coloradoans agree. I think it's outrageous. I think that if he is making statements that his constituents are not supporting or authorizing, he needs to be removed. Or at the very least, reprimanded.

Wow and just look at the comments on the Post's site. 294 and counting. And I was at first happy then dismayed when the Asst. House Leader back pedaled on his idea of an ethical probe on Bruce. What a bigot!!!

A person who cannot read/write the native language is referred to as illiterate. Many immigrants are initially illiterate in English, although they may be fluent in their native tongue.

A peasant is typically somebody who farms a small plot of ground.

Yes, a lot of Mexicans are illiterate peasants. With that being said, I'd choose their company over a politician any day.

IIRC, he was not voted into that specific office but was appointed after the house rep for that district stepped down (or whatever). Hehe, he's not even listed on the State's website yet: Reapportionment Database Access (http://www.state.co.us/gov_dir/leg_dir/lcsstaff/REAP/HouseDescriptions.htm - broken link) (District 15)

I am in District 14 so he doesn't represent me. :-)

EDIT: I didn't pay attention to the date on that page. Whoops.

Sterling, nice job! I agree with your definitions, who can argue that?

I guess what bothers me is that in recent years, the immigration debate has allowed the bigots (who were currently in hiding) a platform in which to voice their "accepted" comments. Meaning, immigration is not really the issue at hand. Although I do think it deems merit and some thought, perhaps some legislation to allow for the influx of migrants. The real issue is our economy, our state of the nation, our dividedness with the Bush administration and the so-called war for freedom.

This is not the first time immigrants have been attacked. If you look back in history, this is just another sad time where our economy and lives are not going so well, so "let's blame the poor immigrant!"

Your last statement brought me to smile. Thank you.

The ridiculous thing is that while Bruce supposedly rails against "illegal immigration," the bill he was commenting on was an agricultural labor bill. Not actually very controversial stuff, to tell the truth. So we're talking about LEGAL seasonal farm workers on government-issued visas. And it's a temporary seasonal visa program, much like we've always done with foreign ski resort workers, so it's not related to immigration either.

In fact, I think that most Americans of both parties have, in principle, always believed that immigration should be orderly and controlled, and that borders should be enforced. It's actually only in the last few years that the immigration issue has degenerated into this slimy muck of race-baiting, name-calling, hate-mongering. It's a shame, too, because it's impossible to have a civil dialog on the subject anymore, while the Tom Tancredos and Doug Bruces of the world have only served to completely alienate the average voter through their antics. Would YOU want to be associated with these clowns? That's no sane politician will touch the immigration issue with a ten foot pole, sadly.

You can't actually blame the voters in the district for Bruce. No one elected this guy to anything! The state GOP party simply handed the district over to him after his predecessor resigned mid-term. What were they thinking? I'm sure that's the same thing that the GOP leadership is saying now.

tfox: Yeah, voters certain9ly didn't put him in place, I didn't know that until recently.

It's not the first time that immigration has evolved into this kind of "slimy mich of race-baiting, name-calling, hate-mongering." Just look at the Jews, the Chinese, the Irish, the Japanese, the east Indians (who are getting it from the American idiot who can't tell the difference between an east Indian and a Sunni, both some of the kindest people around). Anyway, there are way too many groups to cover off the top of my head. Not too long ago I studied the many Acts that the U.S. put into place to cover these immigrants. Each Act was heavily racist and every time these groups immigrated here they were the scapegoat, same as the Mexicans.

And you are so right, all over a law that was for migrant farmers? Pathetic. And really shows his true colors.
