The time when the additional snow is especially noticeable in the south metro is the late spring, when the a few additional degrees of cold turns rain into snow. In several days in April this last year, some of my colleagues from Castle Rock and thereabouts were completely snowed in, while we here in Denver got only a small amount of rain. I noticed that day that the line of snow changing to rain was around Arapahoe Road on I-25, and the further south one went from Arapahoe Road, the heavier the snow, up until Monument Hill which was completely closed due to snow.

I live in Castlewood Ranch, one of the windier spots in Castle Rock because we are at the top of the ridge line. The wind gusts can be impressive, but I don't find it bothersome. In fact, the constant breeze is nice during the hot summer months.
As far as snow, I think it all evens out over the course of a season. Sometimes Denver gets more, sometimes we get more. This past winter, of course, was completely obnoxious, but it was also an anomaly, according to long-term residents.

While the quantity of snow we got last winter was average in inches (having been low in inches the past several years) it was obnoxious in that it fell so early and didn't have a chance to melt. On average we get that much snow but much (most?) of it falls in March and April when it can melt much faster. We in Monument got 204 inches last winter. Most of it fell early and didn't get to melt. Snow and ice were on the ground just about the entire winter. It sucked. This upcoming winter won't be that bad. My horoscope confirms that.

We lived in Castle Rock for three years and the weather was always worse than Denver metro. Hubby works around Broadway & C-470 and I'm sure his boss thought he was lying about the all the bad weather we got since HR hardly got ANY snow on days snow was piled high in our driveway.

This is true as it is higher in elevation. Some rain that may be in Denver may be turning to snow in Castle Rock. Since it is also, due to elevation, a bit cooler, the melting of the snow- for me- appears to be slower as well.

Castle Rock
Hi Coherewecome - The weather is most similar to Denver's - which is pretty mild. There are some odd fronts that push through. Wonder where you're moving from? Yes, Castle Rock is a lot windier than most areas. But you will be happy for it, except from Jan - March. The rest of the year, the wind feels nice and relaxing.
As for snow, it's Colorado, man! Hard to tell how the snow thing will work.
The Meadows is nice, but also check out Castlewood Ranch and the area behind the fairgrounds.
You will love CR. It is great, I kid you not.

Castle Rock does get more snow. My friend in Highlands Ranch was able to go into work many a time when I was not due to the amount of snow blocking the roads.
THe summers are nicer though, cool in the mornings and evenings.

Well, YEAH, we are 100ft - 230ft HIGHER than Highlands and almost 1,000 feet HIGHER than Denver. It is very windy here, but not Chicago-like wind. It is moderate, nice.
As for snow, well yes, we get a bit more because of all the hills. But they do a good job plowing and the snow melts after 3 days anyway.
Castle Rock kicks butt, man. I'd say it is a definite winner. Much better than dealing with the dirt city of Denver and traffic to Denver if you have to work there is not bad at all.
