Default St. George's economy

I am considering relocationg to St. George but am afraid it looks to be nothing but a retirement/resort town. Does anyone have any insight as to the average wage in St. George?
We are in our late 20s and have a long way to go before we retire and need an area that our careers can grow in.
And really how hot is it and does it cool down at night?
Thanks!

Average wage for what kind of work? Being Superintendent of Public Schools? Washing dishes?
Although St. George is sometimes characterized as a "mild" climate -- relative to other areas in Utah -- it really isn't. Considering how hot it gets in summer, it gets surprisingly cold in winter: it has a very high amplitude of thermal swing:

Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Annual
Average Max. Temperature (F) 53.6 59.9 67.9 76.7 86.1 96.2 101.7 99.5 92.6 80.2 64.8 54.0 77.8
