The five year old thread that just goes on and on. By now the OP has gotten tired of the ski town life, has married and is raising kids back in Austin. And this thread lives on. I was a "ski bum" for a Christmas season. A whole lotta fun for a month.

I believe this thread was combined with others as there are always a number of "I wanna move to a ski town" threads that pop up every year that ends up talking about the same issues.

Yes; I do that so we can concentrate knowledge into threads that are full of advice and many views.

Isn't it great when a thread has a life of it's own!

It is better to post in an existing thread than to start a new one.

This thread is perfect for those thinking of being a ski bum
info from years ago is still useful today.

ps Now is the time to be securing a job as a resort.

The problem with that is, if a thread was started (say) five years ago, whatever info given in its early life may be totally irrelevant today. So you read all this stuff that no longer applies and eventually get to page whatever and now it has current info. I don't agree that years ago info is still "useful" as a rule, it depends on market forces etc. Things have changed radically lately. All bets are off.

If someone wants to be a ski bum and can't figure out that info posted 5 years ago may not be relevant today they have much bigger surprises on the horizon.

I lived in Vail 16 years ago and moved back a few years ago, not all that much has changed.

In fact you go back and read some of the books about the founding of Vail back in the 1960's and not much has changed at all in the basic mechanics of living in a ski town.

I was responding to snofarmer's assertion that it's always better to post on an existing thread than start a new one. Not necessarily just referring to a ski bum thread.
