Default Substitute Pay in Grand Junction

My husband and I are considering a sudden move to Grand Junction based on a job offer for my husband. I am a teacher. With the late notice on a move, I do not believe that there will be any full time positions open in my specific educational field; therefore, I am looking into substitute teaching. Does anyone know what the substitute pay is in the Grand Junction area (Mesa County Valley School District #51)? Also, does anyone know if it is easy to get substitute jobs in the area, or are they already flooded with substitute teachers?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Here is a link to the District 51 website. Best to get the info straight from the horses mouth.

I have been a substitute teacher for District 51 for the past 3 years. You can keep pretty busy. Pay starts at $90. a day and goes up from there depending on your qualifications. You will need to get licensed in CO. That takes a little time so I would get started ASAP. Good luck.
My husband and I have been here going on 10 years. It is a great place to live.

If you have experience as a teacher, I wouldn't totally discount the idea of getting a full time teaching position. I was hired 2 days before school began, and I wasn't the only one. There were 2 other teachers at my school who were also hired last minute. Throw your application out there and do some calling around. It always helps to put a name with a voice!

As far as substituting goes, I think the pay is pretty low. I am pretty sure it is less than $100 a day. I know it was very difficult for me to a sub last year when I needed one without notice. The few times I got sick overnight, they had to pull resource teachers to cover my classroom.

Default Thank you

Thank you to everyone for you valuable input. My husband and I are currently in Grand Junction checking out his potential job and the area. We like it here but will probably not make the move. Housing is expensive here compared to where we are from. We make a good living where we are with both of us working. If we were to come here and I couldn't find a full time teaching position, it would be tight financially. We'll just wait and see.
