...and then in the late 70s came the 3-wheelers, which then led to the dreaded 'quad' ATVs in the 80s. They are the scourge of the forests now and a big reason why so many non-motorized/roadless initiatives are being fervently pursued...bad behavior by a few leads to responsible motorized users being branded 'hooligans'.

Then again, I've come across plenty of rude people hiking, on horseback, or mtn bike. So much 'attitude' out there these days..."my hobby is better than your hobby"...

I hate quads...but that's just me. "Texas Wheelchairs" is what I call them...

Try taking a personal watercraft out to play in river rapids some time. Rafters may try to lynch you, but climbing up whitewater rapids is more fun than you can imagine.

Fun as it sounds, I don't think I could do that and feel good about it. As a fisherman, the mere thought of seeing that is disturbing and would drive me to commit violent acts...I don't think it's legal to take those things on rivers in CO, anyway...is it??

Yes it is legal, and you shouldn't get angry at someone trying to have a good time.

I'm a fisherman, and I own a personal watercraft. Everyone has a right to enjoy themselves.

Really? I could get a personal watercraft and put in on the Poudre or the Colorado or any river and just go zip around? Dodging rafters, tubers, and fishermen? Wow. First I've ever heard of this in 36yrs here. I'll have to do some research.

I did it a long time ago over near Moab, and have no idea if it was illegal. There weren't any signs posted next to the boat ramp, so I had some fun and got yelled at by rafters.

Other people in my group went motorcycle riding and got yelled at by bicyclists. They were riding on trails that the motorcyclists have been using for the last 40 years.....

If it's legal, I guess there's not much else people can do other than gripe at each other. That's the way it's becoming as our State keeps filling up. All these user conflicts are glaring examples of the unintended consequences of population growth and technology, and there is an 'elitist' element to the non-motorized crowd and their voices are being heard more and more with all the trail closures & USFS consolidations we're seeing now.
