Question about Cortez/Dolores
My wife and I are relocating to southwest Colorado. We will be working in Cortez and living near Dolores. We have traveled to the area a few times and are satisfied that we will enjoy the outdoor recreational opportunities offered in this part of the state. Anyway, I do have a few questions that perhaps a local or somebody familiar with the are can answer:
Where should I ski? Of course, I'll sample all of the fair in that part of the state and elsewhere, but I mean, where should I buy a season pass. I guess the real question I'm asking is which is more accessible from Dolores: Telluride or Purgatory? How often does 145 close around Lizard Head Pass because of heavy snowfall or avalanches? Purgatory's season pass is substantially cheaper than Telluride, so I'll be factoring that into my decision as well. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this question in particular.
