Why is it that Colorado has so few types of gas stations that you generally find in most of the country? You hardly see any Chevron, BP, Mobil, Texaco, Sunoco, or Exxon stations. You do see a few Shell, but they tend to be scattered. The only mainstream oil company stations that you see in large numbers are Conoco and Phillips 66, which are part of Conoco-Phillips. You also see a fair number of Diamond Shamrock and Sinclair stations, but these are more regionalized companies. Then, you have the multitude of almost unheard of gas stations that you don't see any any other state. Why is this the case?

Good question, I don't know, but I for one am glad since the price seems to be lower here than many parts of the country, at least in the Denver Metro.

That's because almost all of the gasoline you buy comes from Colorado oil and is refined at the Conoco refinery at Commerce City off of I-270. Even the other brands of gas stations in Colorado including Shell and others get their gasoline from this Conoco refinery.

Have to agree with the Sinclair dino. When I was growing up in NY we had Sinclair. I thought they went out of business 30 yrs ago! We moved to CO and viola, Sinclair. Boy does it bring back memories. My mom still has a drinking glass from a Sinclair giveaway in the late 60's! Yes, for all of you young folks, "service" stations used to actually give away stuff to compete for customers! Ah the good old days....
