Waht are you talking about??? It's Spanish word, so it's pronounced BWAYnah Vista...
Or, if you really wanna get NPR-Latino-Hour accurate, it's 'BuWayNah BeeStah'

Normally I try not to be a stickler on spelling, since I make enough ugly typos of my own, but being as how this thread is about correct usage of the English language, I thought you might want to have the title of it spelled correctly.

I usually pride myself on my spelling, but apparently I've had this one wrong for some time Thanks for the correction!

About the closest in English phonetic is "May-suh Vair-day." Spanish for "green table"--"mesa" means "an isolated relatively flat-topped natural elevation usually more extensive than a butte and less extensive than a plateau ; also : a broad terrace with an abrupt slope on one side : bench." From Merriam Webster

Thanks. I once had an argument with my friend who keeps saying "Ver-Deee".

How about good ole Del "Nort"? And Isn't "Mont Vista" down the road.
In Virginia it's BUU-NA VISTA.

Yes, there are English "bastardized" versions that have become the accepted local pronunciation--"Dell Nort" for Del Norte, just "B-yoonie" for Buena Vista. Monte Vista is usually pronounced "Monta Vista" or just plain "Mon-tee" by the locals.
The one that really grates on me is the Kansas pronunciation of El Dorado as "El Dah-raydo." That one just sounds sick and wrong. Of course, they also say the "Ar-KAN-sus" River instead of the "Ar-kun-SAW" River. Go figure.

I'm glad I live in Nevada, and not Ne-VAY-da, Missouri.
