Ouray is pronounced Ooray, and Crested Butte is pronounced Crested Beewt (as in flute).
Arvada is pronounced with a short A, like at.

OK Coloradans. I know how the Kansans say it and I know how the Arkansans say it. How do most Coloradans pronounce the name of the Arkansas river?

I remember the ONE time I pronounced Buena Vista the Spanish way.
I never made that mistake again.
For the record: Buena is pronounced sort of like View-na.
I refuse to pronounce Buena Vista like Viewna. I'm from California where we know how to pronounce Spanish place names. I guess I don't have much of an opportunity to say it out loud to people, so I haven't been embarrassed yet.

R-kun-saw

Interestingly websters dictionary says either that one or R-kan-zus is corrrect...
Main Entry: Ar·kan·sas
Pronunciation: \ˈär-kən-ˌsȯ; is also är-ˈkan-zəs\

I feel the same way. My cousin, a CO native, was joking with me once about how, in Texas, we give places Spanish names then mispronounce them. I said "Yeah? Like Biewna Vista!"
