Can we make a good living in Colorado? Please help
Hello everyone. I am 23 and my boyfriend is 25, and we are really interested in moving to Colorado. We live in so. cal right now, and would really like the get out of here!! We both work in a restaurant, serving and bartending. I know that the wage of a tipped employee is $4.00 an hour, which is half the amount we make now. We just want to make sure, that we would be making enough to survive. We are looking in the areas of Littleton, Aurora, Lakewood. Does anyone have any advice on what to do, where exacty to settle. Looking to spend $600-$700 for rent at first, and then upgrade later on. I have so so many questions, considering we have both never even been to Colorado. We both just love the snow, love the cold weather, and like I said want to leave so. cal. If anyone has any input, I would love to hear anything!!!

If you have never been here, I would advise a visit before making a committemnt to living here. You can get a much better 'feel' for the area by actually seeing it.

I'd suggest posting this in the Denver forum. The Colorado forum is more geared towards rural Colorado.

Keep in mind that the economy is slowing down, not picking up. The job market will not improve in the foreseeable future.

If you love the snow and the cold why don't you look for a job in one of the ski resorts. They are gearing up right now for the 2009-2009 ski season. Good tips from what they tell me. Search: Vail, Aspen, Keystone, Breckenridge, etc. Probably get a free ski pass. Good luck

Yup if you are doing a tip based job I would try the ski resorts. I know a lot of wait staff that can clear $200-$300 a night. The best town to work for tips is Vail and Beaver Creek. |

Your steak resturants also get good tips. I know college students who work at Texas Roadhouse and others here in Colorado Springs who clear a few hundred a night. The cost of living is slightly lower than the Denver area too.
