When does a person have the best chance of seeing fall colors in this area? My husband, his brothers, and his dad are going to Estes Park next week...is that too early for fall colors? I was just curious. Thanks!

There is a tiny smidgen of color here in Summit County......It seems that the peak is around the 3rd/4th weekend in Sept.

I agree. It's long been said that the 3rd weekend in Sept. is prime Aspen viewing time. It does depend a little on the year, though. This Sept. has started cool, so maybe fall will be early this year. Who knows, though, until it happens?

The U.S. Forest Service usually gives a color report on their website. Currently they're not showing any news.

Too early, unfortunately. I live an hour SE of Estes Park and almost 1,000 feet higher. There's nothing happening yet. My husband rode his motorcycle along Peak to Peak to Lyons yesterday and gave me the "report". Although with these cold nights (35 this am!) things should start soon.

Yeah, I told my hubby he was going to have to pack warm since upper 60's and upper 30's were by far much different from the upper 90's we have been experiencing. I am absolutely jealous that he is getting to go without me...fall colors or not!

Some of the leaves are even changing down here in Louisville. There may be bits of color and it will be pretty anyway.

But, the upper 60's with sunshine in the high country means shorts and flip-flops! The sun is alot stronger at a higher elevation which makes the 60's feel wonderful.

I just noticed this today in Longmont when I was standing in the back yard! There are a couple of ash trees turning red at the top.
