The rednecks who live behind me have a golden retriever who they evidently hate. They keep him on a short leash and leave him chained out there with no regard to the weather. He's out there in the hail storm, in the 110 degree weather. They never play with him, he's not allowed in the house with their other small dog. The dog barks all the time and whines because he wants some attention.

Today the poor dog was found hung by his collar off of the back porch. Animal control says they can't do anything about it since there were no previous calls of cruelty. So, I feel pretty guilty that this poor dog is dead and maybe I could have prevented it had I called twice before like I wanted to. My family said don't make a stink, let's not make war with the neighbors. But, moral of the story is, next time I'm calling and you should too. You see animal abuse and neglect don't hesitate to call it in.

I am so sorry for you! I have a real thing on animal abuse also. I have had many rescues in my life and rant about it as the vet lists the scars.

Can we go back to "Town Square Hanging" as an example to others........

Don't take it too hard, you've done well posting it and educating others on the rules.

I am always sickened by people who treat other living things with such little regard. I'm sorry you had to see something so terrible but am glad you feel guilty about it. Not to be mean, but because it will make you do something about it next time. If more people got involved and "made a stink" about these kinds of things instead of what movie star is doing what, we'd all be a lot better off. The only good thing is that now the poor dog won't have to suffer any more.

Awww, geez. That's just plain tragic. Makes me want to treat the owners to some of their own behavior....

Anyway, good of you to post. Maybe we can prevent this kind of thing in the future.

*grumbles to self about stupid humans*

Call Animal Control in your city. Report it and they get fined and maybe go to jail.

I've called about our neighbor who puts their two big dogs in her car every night so they don't have to listen to them whining. Pathetic.

To get around it I guess she parks in the driveway now. Still puts the dogs into the car every night and they are in it until late on weekends. Probably cause they are too hungover to get them out earlier.

That's unfortunate, but I'm not sure any of their actions would qualify, legally, as abuse, or even as blatant neglect. Don't horses and cows live outdoors all year long? If so, couldn't the argument be made that a Dog could too?

I'm sorry but, horses and cows are considered livestock and different rules apply. No, the same rules do not apply.
