Default Relocating...looking for communities near Denver?!

We are interested in relocating from Arizona to Colorado, preferably somewhere near Denver. We would like a place in the suburbs, but not too far from the action. I especially like the woodsy looking areas.
We are looking to buy, and our max price is around $250,000. Our main priorities are good schools, safe area, and lots of stuff to do.
Can someone list some nice communities to check out, and maybe a bit of info about the area?

1. I'd recommend asking this question in the Denver forum rather than the Colorado forum.
2. What do you mean by "woodsy"? You mean the mountains? foothills? Black Forest?
3. 250k max price? Forget anything in the above category. You'll be living on the plains for sure.
4. Lot of stuff to do? You'll want to live in the core of the Denver metro area (or Boulder or Fort Collins) for sure, not some far flung "woodsy" area in any case.

If you're not near the city, you're either in the "Mountains" or "Plains". Only the mountains are "woodsy" and they are just barely considered "suburbs." There are a few small homes in that price range that are on the fringe of Evergreen (Indian Hills, Idledale, Confier) that were probably used as a cabin that was improved to live in full-time. Schools in the area are barely acceptable. "Action" is in the few bars and taverns in the area, a little theater and some winter activities.

To get anything better or closer to Denver, you'll either need to look to the plains or the small homes in the subdivisons around Aurora or Parker, with maybe 2 trees. There are more trees on the lots right in Denver, but your price doesn't get you a very nice house or school, but it can be done.

It is always a good idea, IMO, to get a feel for the local real estate prices before setting a price limit. $250K will not get you a lot in metro Denver, nothing on acreage.

What about a commute?

Is "woodsy" tree lined streets or forest like?

What makes a school "good"?

There is always a lot to do - depends on what you think is fun.
